Get to know Mary Taylor!
By the time I was walking and talking, I was also singing, dancing, and creating stories for my family and friends. I began acting on stage in elementary school in a student-written school musical, and I've been in love with the performing arts ever since. I continued performing in musicals and plays throughout middle and high school, as well as in my schools' show choir groups. I feel blessed that I have been able to pursue my passion as my career, and I experience no greater joy than when I am able to share that passion with others.
I'm thrilled to have recently graduated from Samford University with my B.F.A. in Musical Theatre. I am currently working with Birmingham Children's Theatre as Kaa/Narrator 5 in their touring production of The Jungle Book!
When I'm not on stage, I enjoy baking, reading, and spending time with my friends. I love to travel, and have dreams to see as much of the world as I can!
Artist Philosophy
I don’t necessarily come from a family of artists. However, I am so fortunate to have been supported in my love for performing from a young age. Music and theatre have become my therapy, and what I want to dedicate my life to. It has amazed me how many of my anxieties have melted away over the years as I’ve been on stage, and I’ve always wanted to help others experience that freedom. Providing audience members with something that they connect to, ponder deeply, and weep over, is something revolutionary to me.
Every day, we risk becoming more and more desensitized to the things around us. Knowing that I could be a part of a performance that makes someone stop, feel, and question the thoughts and emotions they have remains motivational to my work as a performer. Music and theatre have the power to touch people’s lives and create powerful conversations. My goal with my work as a singer, actress, and performer has always been to help create these conversations. Through my artistry, I want to speak to people in ways that words and actions sometimes cannot. I believe that music and theatre fosters life-changing relationships, and I want nothing more than to be a part such movement in the communities I’m a part of.
